Please welcome Rev. Dr. Bruce Jones as our new Interim Pastor. He will officially assume this role on February 1st. Rev. Jones is a life-long Presbyterian, baptized, confirmed, and ordained. He grew up in a small town in northern New York, six miles from the Canadian border. He is very proud of his Scottish heritage and led a trip to Scotland in 2011 (you may see him in a kilt for Reformation Sunday). He graduated from Cornell University, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a degree in education. He worked for Cooperative Extension before attending seminary in Dubuque, IA. Rev. Jones received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. As a pastor, he believes in teaching leadership and empowering lay leaders. Bruce enjoys leading Bible Study and approaches Scripture as a student seeking to learn along with everyone else.
Bruce became a member of the Milwaukee Presbytery in 1999 when he started as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Janesville where he met his wife Krista. He led the transitional work on two administrative commissions (AC) and the Commission on Ministry (COM) including being the moderator. This past summer, he preached and moderated the Session at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton successfully assisting them in the transition from their former pastor.
Bruce invested time in the Janesville community serving on various boards of directors, volunteering with youth, and serving as a volunteer chaplain for the Janesville Police Department and both Janesville hospitals. Bruce received training in Critical Incident Stress Management for individuals and groups in preparation as a chaplain and believes this has enhanced his ministry. He also helps with the Cambridge high school wrestling program. He likes to cook, garden, and explore the outdoors.
His wife, Krista, is a Wisconsin native and works for the Cambridge School District as Middle School Principal and Director of Student Services. They spend time driving their two sons, Jonathan (JJ) and Alex to various activities. Jonathan, a freshman in high school, participates in wrestling, track, and cross country. He also enjoys mountain bike racing and plays clarinet and tenor sax. Alex participates in hockey as the goalie and in the Science Olympiad. He plays baritone.
Over the past year, Bruce has been the Interim 4-H Youth Development Educator for UW Extension in Jefferson County. He provided pulpit supply at various churches in different denominations. While, he appreciated the change in routine and working with different clientele, Bruce feels God's call to return to full-time ministry and looks forward to joining Forest Park as our Interim Pastor.
